Jackie Robertson with the Pentax 67

I’ve gotten to play around with the Pentax 6x7 for the first time these last few weeks. Returning to film has reminded me of how I got into photography to begin with — my sister introduced it to me when I was 9 years old. She and I created a darkroom our of our bathroom and developed the photos for her photo class. That rawness is what got me into film, and shortly after that I fell in love with digital.

Returning to the analog process and learning how to shoot with medium format for the first time has been refreshing and meditative to my workflow as a photographer. I’ve been putting extra thought into the focus, exposure, and composition of capturing these moments, which has made me realize how precious a tool this is. Shouts to Phillip and Hannah Wong for guiding me back to my roots.
