The Mamiya 645 AF is a superb professional medium-format SLR. As much as it would serve any seasoned pro with its interchangeable backs, auto focus, multiple automatic metering modes, and a series of sharp, relatively compact lenses, the 645 AF makes for a great introduction into shooting medium format film, especially for those coming from more modern cameras.

With more than twice the surface area of 35mm film, 645 still offers a generous 16 frames per roll of 120 film, making it the most affordable way to shoot medium format. While the difference between 645 and the larger medium-format sizes will likely never be noticeable online, the same cannot be said for the huge jump from 35mm to 645, where grain begins to disappear in all but the largest prints.
